Dec. 14 News and Rumors Recap: Jayson Castro, Jake Pascual and etc.

(c) PBA Media Bureau

Here are some interesting bites in the last few days.

NEWS
Enemies to Friends: Former College rivals Abueva and Pascual turn teammates
Calvin Abueva and Jake Pascual assured Alaska fans that Jake and Calvin will not have a problem playing together. In an interview with Spin.ph, Calvin said “Nung araw yun. Eh ngayon, iba na, pro na tayo, ‘di ba?... Kaya syempre dito lang naman umiikot yung mundo natin sa basketball... Kahit na may nagawa ako o may nagawa siya, syempre past is past na."

On the other hand, Jake is not pressured at all after coach Alex talk to him about his role, "Kinausap rin naman ako ni coach Alex (Compton) na hindi naman niya ine-expect na mapupunan ko yung kawalan nila Sonny and Noy... Sabi niya lang ‘laruin mo lang ang laro mo. 'Kinuha ka namin dito kasi may nagustuhan kami sa laro mo.’ Hindi daw nila ako kinuha para i-fill up ‘yung kawalan nila Sonny and Noy sa ngayon.”

I can feel the excitement of the Aces fans with this acquisition because their team seldom make trades. I do expect Calvin and Jake to bring out extra ounce of energy from each other and we do not know, maybe Jake can use their past as a drive to improve and play better.

One more: Gary David is injured
Gary David will not be the answer to the scoring woes of Mahindra because of a knee injury. That injury will sideline him for at least a month. In an interview with Spin.ph, coach Gavina said, "“(It is) non-invasive, but it's still gonna take time for him to heal,” he added. “We're not gonna force him to come back. If anything, we're gonna get him a hundred percent and ready for our next conference.”

That will mean Mahindra will need to rely on their younger wings like Jeric Teng and Josan Nimes. This could turn out to be a blessing in disguise if Teng and Nimes deliver.

Lease of Life: Globalport sign Josh Urbiztondo
Globalport officially make Josh a Batang Pier. Josh has been with Globalport for two weeks but because of the Fil-Am limits rule, he was just activated today. He played 9 minutes against Ginebra which means Globalport will continue with their very small backcourt.

RUMOR
Switch Side?: Jayson Castro wants to go to SMC?
Factuality Meter: 10%

A tweet from the #1 source of buzzes was the fire starter of these talks. It did not named Jayson as the star player being talk about but the clues in the tweet were deciphered to be pointing to him.

It is hard to buy that because Castro already signed a contract with TNT. And if you watch him play, the determination can be seen in his face. If this is true, we should see more clues in the next few days or weeks.
